The Guild Theatreworks will be presenting a reading of the sentimental comedy The Octette Bridge Club on Wednesday June 5th at 7 pm at the Bob Anstett Cultural Arts Center, 515 Herbertsville Road, Brick. The Octette Bridge Club
A delightful, sentimental comedy about American life in a bygone era. On alternate Friday evenings, eight sisters of Irish descent meet to play bridge and gossip. The first act takes place in 1934, the second ten years later during a Halloween bridge party where each acts out her costume’s persona. The emotionally distraught youngest, has just gotten out of a sanitarium and knows that she must loosen the bonds to her smothering family and strike out on her own. The sisters talk about their childhood, their marriages, their children and each other as they air old and new grievances and loyalties.
